Historical Overview

Harrison County was the fourth county organized in Indiana, Harrison County was named for William Henry Harrison, the largest land holder in the county at the time, the first governor of Indiana Territory, a General in the War of 1812, hero of Tippecanoe, and the 9th President of the United States. Harrison was originally part of Knox and Clark Counties, In 1808, the county was separated from Knox and Clark Counties. Harrison County is located in southern Indiana on the Ohio River. In 2020 its population was 39,654. Corydon serves as the county seat.
