Established on March 1, 1836, from the territories of Allen and Randolph counties, Adams County’s name pays homage to President John Quincy Adams. With a population of 35,809 as per the 2020 census, this vibrant county is a harmonious blend of heritage and community spirit. After its incorporation in 1836, Decatur emerged as the county seat with a current population of 9,913. Approximately one quarter of the population is Swiss Amish.
